based on the May 3, 2004 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on May 17,
2004 at 8:00PM
The May 17th Board Meeting will take place at the South Holland Community Center
Student Government Day
Junior high school students who will participate in Student Government Day on May 17, 2004 observed the Village Board Meeting as part of their orientation. A total of sixteen students from Calvary Academy, Calvin Christian, McKinley Jr. High and St. Jude the Apostle schools will take part this year.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the summer program book is being finalized and South Holland residents will receive it in the mail the week of May 10.
Also, the interview process for youth interested in working for the summer has started and should be completed by mid-May.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn thanked all those who participated in the Village's Take A Bite Out of Grime and Arbor Day Celebration last weekend. Despite the inclement weather over 200 volunteers participated.
She also reminded everyone of the 2004 Celebration of Education, Saturday, May 8 from 8am till 12 noon at Thornwood High School, in conjunction with the Lion's Club Pancake Day. There will be plenty to see and do including face painting for the kids, musical ensembles and great raffle prizes.
Anyone who is interested in doing business with the Peotone 3rd Airport can attend a Vendors Summit, free of charge, on May 17 from 9am till 12 noon at Dining on the Green. For more information or to register, call Congressman Jackson Jr.'s office at 708-798-6000, attention Keiana Barrett.
Public Works
Trustee Knittle encouraged everyone to visit the Public Works Department during their open house on May 22 from 10am till 2pm. There will be interactive displays, prizes and refreshments.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2004-242 through 2004-321. Included in those permits, according to Trustee DeYoung, are elevator rehab at MB Financial; Providence Bank build-out; new dock for Carl Buddig facility; Truck Stop property for sale signage; new Thomas Nissan dealership; and a new home in the Morningside subdivision.
Other Notables:
Dr. Carl King from Christ Community Church opened the meeting in prayer.
The Board approved the appointments of village officers and commission and committee members.
The Board approved an amendment to the Village's current Ethics Ordinance, as mandated by the State. The ordinance regulates the ethical conduct, political activities and the solicitation and acceptance of gifts by State officials and employees.
The Board approved an amendment to the curfew ordinance of the Village Code protecting the first amendment rights of youth under 17 who are out after curfew hours.
Trustee Chambers announced the annual Fire Department Boot Day will be held Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8. Proceeds will go to the Illinois Burn Camp.
Village Clerk DeVries read proclamations designating May 16 - 22 as Public Works Week; and May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
