Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the Village Board,
based on the April 5, 2004 meeting.

Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

New Deputy Director

Village Board President Don A. De Graff appointed Reginald D. Johnson as the new Deputy Director of the Planning, Development, and Code Enforcement Department.  Reggie previously held positions in the telecommunications, architecture, and construction industries.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced the following upcoming events:

The 9th Annual Take A Bite Out of Grime Day May 1st at the Community Center.  Participants will clean designated areas of South Holland and plant a tree in celebration of Arbor Day before departing.  The event begins at 8:30am.  Participants will receive free breakfast and lunch.  To sign up, call 708-210-2904.

The annual Celebration for Education will be held May 8th at Thornwood High School in conjunction with the Lion's Club Pancake Day from 6:30am to 1pm.  The pancake breakfast is all you can eat for $5.  Tickets are available at the Village Hall.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2004-110 through 2004-172.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee DeYoung, are improvements for Gibson Chevrolet, Walt's Food, Lansing Cleaners, Charko-Chicken, Mr. Submarine, Robinson Engineering, and Ralph Edgar Properties.

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Fitness Center is offering 50% off of enrollment and a one day pass for a 1 year membership.

A reminder:  groups of 30 or more planning a picnic must receive a permit from the Village.  Only South Holland residents are eligible to receive permits.

The summer program book is scheduled to be mailed to residents in early May.

Other Notables:

Rev. Heino Blaauw from First Reformed Church opened the meeting in prayer.

The Board approved a resolution amending the stop sign ordinance to add a stop sign at 169th Street & Woodlawn East (northbound) to relieve congestion due to current construction on 170th Street.

The Board approved volume cap resolutions for funds to the Illinois Housing Authority to support South Holland's 1st Time Homebuyers Program where residents can receive a mortgage tax credit; and support business development in the South Chicagoland region.

The Board approved a resolution for Cook County Class 8 status for the new Providence Bank which will be located at Route 6 and School Street.

Trustee Knittle reported that excellent cooperation with the Village of Dolton resulted in the ability to stop a recent water main leak.
