based on the February 2, 2004 meeting.

Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

Black History Month
Village Clerk Ruth DeVries read a proclamation declaring February as Black History Month in the Village of South Holland by acknowledging great African-American leaders who have helped make America a better place.
In addition, an exhibit entitled “Dream & Do” will be displayed at First Reformed Church in South Holland from February 13-22, 2004 recognizing African-American & South Holland Area Historical accomplishments.
Parks & Rec
Trustee Bennett reported that they are now accepting applications for the Memorial Day Parade.
He also reported that the February special at the Community Center is a 13 month membership for the price of 12.
Also, the ice rinks have all been flooded and are in great shape.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced the next Mayors Coffee will be held on March 4, 2004 at 7:00pm at the Community Center.
She also reported Babe Ruth registration will be held on Feb. 14, 2004 from 11-1pm and Feb. 18 from 6-7:30pm at the Community Center.
Fire Alarm Bid Accepted
Trustee Knittle reported that a bid opening took place for a new fire alarm system to be placed in the Municipal Complex buildings. The lowest bid was received from Manning Electric for $32,570. The board awarded the contract to Manning Electric.
Departments Receive Thank You's 168th & State Street Grant
The Public Works department received a thank you from Catholic Charities for allowing them the use of safety vests and parking cones to help in a large event that they held.
A letter was also received from New Hope Center thanking Public Works, the Fire Department, and the Police Department in their help in locating a resident who had been reported missing from the center.
Other Notables:
Reverend Jim VanZetten from First Reformed Church opened the meeting in prayer.
The Board approved Trustee Larry DeYoung as President protem in Mayor De Graff's absence.
The Board approved Register No. 458 in the amount of $740,641.21 and Register No. 459 in the amount of $428,358.85 covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments and salaries.
The Board approved building permits No. 2004-18 thru 31.
The Board approved a resolution for a CDBG grant in the amount of $57,250 to improve the exterior lighting at the municipal complex.
A public hearing will be held Feb. 17, 2004 at the Village Hall at 8:00 pm for the College Park Bike Path.
The Board approved a resolution endorsing Phase I MFT funds for the improvements at 168th & State Street.
Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr.'s office announced that the Village received a $200,000 grant from Congress for funding of Phase II engineering and land acquisition at 168th & State Street.
