based on the January 20, 2004 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Public Works

The Board accepted the low bid of $219,000 from Kountoupes Painting Company to paint the elevated water storage tank located off of Van Dam Road adjacent to Fire Station No. 2. “We estimated the job at around $318,000, and believe the bid came in low based on the fact that it is off-season for this type of work,” explained Trustee Frank Knittle.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced the sale of new South Holland license plate holders at Village Hall and Community Center for $2.00/each.

Trustee N. Keith Chambers introduced four new police officers to the Board: Justin Allen Bultema, who graduated from Vincennes University with a degree in law enforcement and worked for the Illinois Dept. of Corrections for three and one-half years; Toyas Rudolph, who is a graduate of Thornwood H.S. and is currently in field training; Robert G. Lietz, who graduated from Bradley University with a degree in criminal justice and is currently in field training; and Leshuan Gray-Riley, who attended Thornridge H.S. and currently attends Columbia College.

Also, former patrol officer and detective Paul Hurckes was acknowledged for his promotion to sergeant in Sept. 2003. He earned his bachelors degree in criminal justice from Western Ill. Univ. and is presently assigned to the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. 

 

Other Notables:

Jim Heethuis from The Bible League USA opened the meeting in prayer.

The Board approved Register No. 457 in the amount of $902,962.97 covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments and salaries.

The Board approved a resolution to authorize reimbursement to the Village's general fund in the amount of $284.255.12 for downtown TIF district land purchases made by the Village.

The Board approved building permits No. 2004-001 thru 217 in the amount of $516,000 which include two new build outs: T & R Auto and Antioch Tire.

A FREE seminar on gun safety will be offered by the S.H. Police Dept. to the public on Feb. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Community Center, 501 E. 170th Street.
